General fit okay, inside shorts uncomfortable

"I loved the design of these pants and I had to exchange for a smaller size, and they are comfortable around the leg and waist, but the shorts are unbearable. They come up inches higher than the outer pants, riding right up into the wrong areas. I am a taller person with a longer waist (5'7"), and these pants are generally too short. They weren't obviously uncomfortable upon trying them on, but once I went out in them I had to cut the shorts away from the pants and rip the center seam of the shorts open to be tolerable."

I'd never purchased from Disturbia before and didn't know what to expect, but both pairs fitted brilliantly (I'm normally an 8-10 and took a chance on a size 8 which fitted perfectly - and the elastic at the back allows for a bit of extra space if needed) They are good quality and wash well.
